Manchester United have confirmed that midfielder Nick Powell has returned early from his loan spell with the Premier League’s bottom club, Leicester City.
There were reports earlier this week that Leicester would cut short his loan spell after failing to be impressed by the former Crewe Alexandra academy graduate following his move from Man United.
Powell, 20, joined Manchester United in 2012 when Sir Alex Ferguson was impressed by his emergence at Crewe and felt he was ready for the step up to Old Trafford. He impressed in his early days but wasn’t getting much action due to the competition in the squad, so was sent out on loan to Wigan Athletic where he did quite well. He scored their first ever goal in European competition and helped the team to their first win, too, before returning to Man Utd over the summer.
He was immediately sent out to Nigel Pearson’s Leicester as they hoped he could make the step up in quality from the Championship to the Premier League with a side fighting for survival, but it hasn’t worked out as planned and the midfielder has been sent back to Manchester.
