LIONEL MESSI, Louis Van Gaal and Javier Manquillo all hit the back pages of this papers.

Argentina golden boy Messi was apparently open to leaving Barcelona to join Arsenal.

But the striking wonder - arguably the best player on the planet - ended up staying put.

Van Gaal has been told to forget about signing World Cup winners Mats Hummels and Marcos Reus.

Ed Woodward had been hoping to step up Manchester United's summer spending with a £50m raid for the pair.

But he's been knocked back by Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool are eyeing up a £20m move for Atletico Madrid defender Javier Manquillo.

The 20-year-old Spaniard had also interested Arsenal.

James Rodriguez has completed a £63m move to Real Madrid while Manchester City are so desperate to keep Sergio Aguero they are willing to hand him a £52m contract.
