We’ve been discussing Manchester United‘s potential formation in a running series this week and next up for debate is one that could see Wayne Rooney adopt a position he has already done in the past at United.
The Telegraph are suggesting Roy Hodgson could play Rooney in a left-wing role for England’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland which got us wondering, is it a position Rooney can once again play for United?
Back when Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney and Berbatov were our strikers, Rooney tended to play out on the left-wing and was excellent there. With bags of pace and a tenacious attitude, Rooney was more than capable of running up and down the pitch for 90 minutes.
If Louis van Gaal were to try and use him in that same position, here is how United could line up:
Does Rooney have the pace necessary to play on the left-wing any more? Will United not be getting enough out of him if plays in a wide position compared to the middle?
We want to know what you think.
For the next week, we’ll be publishing your formation suggestions. Leave them in the comments and we’ll choose one every day to take a look at.
