Manchester United new recruits Daley Blind, Luke Shaw, Radamel Falcao and Marcos Rojo, all are in contention to make their debuts against Queen Park Rangers (QPR) on Sunday.
Van Gaal is without the services of Phil Jones who suffered a hamstring injury while playing for England and needs about a month to recover. He joins Ashley Young (knock), Michael Carrick (ankle), Marouane Felliani (ankle) and Chris Smalling (groin) in the list of absentees.
Midfielders Sandro and Niko Kranjcar are expected to make their QPR debuts against Manchester United.
Midfielder Joey Barton will be assessed by manager Harry Redknapp as the 32-year-old is nursing a hamstring strain.
Manchester United have failed to record any success this season and have collected just two points from three opening matches, with two draws and a loss to Swansea City.
