Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Daniel Sturridge could be out for 'up to three weeks' with a thigh injury – while Emre Can is facing a lengthier spell on the sidelines.
Sturridge picked up the problem while on international duty and is currently undergoing treatment at Melwood.
"It could be up to three weeks, which is obviously disappointing," Rodgers told journalists at Melwood.
Meanwhile, Can could be out for up to six weeks with an ankle injury sustained playing for Germany U21s - while Liverpool will need to check on the fitness of Joe Allen, who injured his knee representing Wales in Andorra ahead of Saturday's game with Aston Villa.
"We've got Emre Can back from Germany, who could be out for up to six weeks because of his ankle," said Rodgers.
"We've got Joe Allen back from playing on awful pitch and he has an issue with his knee. We just need to assess that for the weekend.
"Those are the types of things than can happen in games and it's unfortunate."
Looking ahead to the Villa clash, Rodgers also expects to be without defenders Martin Skrtel, Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan - but Adam Lallana could come into contention.
"Martin Skrtel won't be available for the weekend but will hopefully join up with the team when we train on Sunday," added the boss.
"Glen Johnson still has a wee way to go. Young Jon Flanagan is edging towards [fitness] but is not in the squad yet.
"Adam Lallana has been back in the squad for the last couple of weeks, so he's fine."
