Dortmund to sign Lassana Diarra freeing up Ilkay Gundogan to join Arsenal or Man United

According to reports in the Daily Star, Dortmund are closing in on former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Lassana Diarra, therefore putting Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea on alert in the chase for Ilkay Gundogan. The Star claims Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea could make a move for him this January.
The Frenchman is being touted as the replacement for the recently injured Sebastian Kehl but, with speculation over Ilkay Gundogan’s future at the Westfalenstadion rife, it could be a move that would allow the German midfielder leave instead.
Club director Michael Zorc recently revealed he is tired of constant bombardment he receives from other clubs wanting to sign the club’s stars, but admits it means they must be getting something right.
He said: ”It would seem that we constantly have 17 players on the verge of moving to Real Madrid or Manchester United.
“We have been putting up with this kind of rumours on a weekly basis for the past 4 years now.
“But this at least confirms that we are working well.”
It won’t be easy for Dortmund to keep their big name players — especially considering their dismal league position — and with Arsenal and Man United interested in Mats Hummels as well as Gundogan it is understandable if at least one left.
Nonetheless, with Klopp insistent he wants to see his side climb up the table this season, it seems unlikely that either player will leave before summer.
Dortmund are currently one place of bottom in the Bundesliga at the moment with only 15 points. In comparison, Borussia Monchengladbach — who are in the fourth Champions League spot — have 27 points.

It would be surprising to see Dortmund climb back up into one of the four spots but with Klopp’s record at the club and the undying support of the fans, nothing can be ruled out.

Gundogan has appeared in eight Bundesliga games for Dortmund this year, of which they have won one
