The former Auxerre striker has just one goal to his name since he joined Arsenal on a free transfer in 2013. After playing as back up striker behind Oliver Giroud for much of last season because, he was the only option close to Giroud as back up, but following the signing of Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck, plus the recall on loan of Joel Campbell, it has increased competition for places in the Arsenal squad which met he has had limited playing opportunities this season.
A move to Crystal Palace should afford him the opportunity to develop his game, while allowing him the chance to also work on the weaknesses in his game which includes a poor touch and his passing, this can be addressed through a combination of playing regularly and works on the training ground.
Crystal Palace were initially in the frame to sign him before the transfer window opened when Neil Warnock was in charge of the side, but following the appointment of Alan Pardew it was thought that the door had been shut, but with reports of a medical, it will come as a relieve to the manager that he has finally gotten a club within the league who would take him on for the next six months. Other clubs he has been linked to before now includes Aston Villa.
The players that have left the club in recent years from the first team on loan have been players who are advanced in age, ala Andrei Arshavin and just recently Lukas Podolski, few young players like Jack Wilshere before him, who was in the fringes of the team, have gone on loan at a young age as Sanogo is presently doing.
Jack Wilshere’s loan move to Bolton Wanderers, then of the Premier League, five years ago this month was a turning point in the midfielder’s career. He was a completely different player when he came back to the club six months later. Here is hoping that Yaya Sanogo’s loan takes on the same route, as he has the raw ingredients to become a good striker, the height, pace and movement is there, all he needs is to work on his technique and balance, and add goals too to become the striker Wenger says he would be.
