Almost done: Top German midfielder is moving to Man United

Germany's Der Westen have caught everyone by surprise on Friday morning by reckoning that Manchester United have almost sorted a deal to but Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund. It's eyebrow raising to say the least because previous, and pretty reliable, reports in Germany had stated that Manchester United weren't quite as interested as perhaps Gundogan and his agent hoped they would be. The same apparently went for Atletico Madrid and the Premier League clubs showing the most interest were Manchester City and Arsenal.

Yet, Der Westen reckon it's different. The German newspaper say that Gundogan will be transferred to Manchester United because Dortmund don't want to risk losing him for nothing when his contract runs out in June 2016. They even say that Gundogan's impending move to Manchester United is causing something of a distraction as Dortmund look to concentrate on their next game, and it's stated that Gundogan is on a 'farewell tour' before completing his move to the Premier League.

The language swings from probable to almost an acceptance that a deal is done, but then it's all taken a little too lightly for us. Gundogan to Manchester United would be huge news, and Der Westen appear a little too chilled out. Perhaps they've got that Friday feeling and nothing seems to be a big deal, or perhaps they're hinting more than they actually meant to.
