The Borussia Dortmund midfielder is due to put pen to paper with United this weekend, ahead of a €30m summer move.
The German international has recovered from a serious back injury to play an integral part with Dortmund this season, having missed nearly the entire 2013/14 season.
The season before that, in which Dortmund reached the Champions League final, saw Gundogan’s star rise, with his dynamic performances in midfield drawing interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United.
But that serious back trouble he then suffered put paid to any move, and he’s had to graft and grind his way back onto the radar.
It seems United always maintained their interest, and having monitored him closely this season, they’re clearly satisfied that his injury woes are behind him.
