Spanish newspaper Marca have unsurprisingly followed up comments Portuguese newspaper O Jogo published on Tuesday from Fabio Coentrao. The Real Madrid defender had said about Manchester United "I already showed interest in playing there. It's one of the best clubs in the world, a club I admire a lot. It would be an honour to play there."
That was never likely to be left to stew and Marca explain that Coentrao said those things because he knows a transfer is on to leave Real Madrid in the next window. Marca say that Coentrao is 'already paving the way to go from white to red this summer' and they claim he'll 'finally' make the move to the Premier League after a Manchester United move had looked likely on occasions before. The transfer to Old Trafford would be Coentrao's preference and that's what he's packing his bags and hoping for.
Marca state that what they call a special relationship between Manchester Untied and Real Madrid would help any Coentrao transfer, and they also mention the rather pertinent point that Jorge Mendes is the Portuguese international's agent. Mendes has done much work with both the clubs, including arranging transfers for each during the last summer transfer window. The Spanish newspaper say it's those connections which give the supposed transfer more credibility.
