Iker Casillasis to keep his status as Real Madrid's starting XI goalkeeper...at least until the 'Clasico' on Saturday 25th October.
The date is circled in red on theReal Madridcalendar, key with regard to determining the immediate future ofCarlo Ancelotti'sside this season.
The clash against Barcelona will be an important test for both the goalkeeper and the whole Real Madrid team, although all eyes will once again be trained more particularlyon the goal. The trial continues and the week of international matches has only served to fuel a debate that seems to have no end.
The Italian coach is keen to support Casillas, as is the club. Diego López's departure left the way open for the captain to once again assume the position of number one between the sticks - a plan that did not alter even after the arrival of Keylor Navas.
Iker Casillas kicked off the season as part of the starting line up, his continuity or relegation to the bench to be decided on his performance. Crunch time has now come in the form of a showdown with Reals' eternal rivals, a game in which Casillas' merits or failings are destined to be judged.
'El Clasico' marks the Spanish star's moment to prove to his coach that he is worthy of the faith shown in him since being awarded starter status on 12th August in Cardiff. With a few ups and downs, the 'Los Blancos' goal has, on the whole, managed to keep its end up - but the acid test is still to come against Barcelona.
