"Many things were said and many lies circulated," Di Maria said. "They always wanted to pin the idea of leaving the club on me, but that's not how it was. Unfortunately, my football isn't to someone's taste. The only thing I asked for was a fair deal.
Carlo Ancelotti has claimed Angel Di Maria left Real Madrid because his wage demands were too high for the European champions.
Di Maria became the most expensive player in British football when Manchester United paid Real £59.7 million for him in August.
While it seemed Real had already signed Di Maria's replacement before he had even left when they paid £63m for Monaco's James Rodriguez, manager Ancelotti insisted Di Maria quit the Bernabeu for financial reasons.
"Di Maria asked for a lot of money and preferred to leave to go find it," he said. "I was in agreement with the club. There are times when the club needs to say no. You can't change the policies of the club for one player.
"The club couldn't give him the money he wanted. They say that I'm the manager of the club; of course, I coach for the club, not for the players."
Ancelotti's words are in contrast to those of Di Maria, who in August claimed he had wanted to stay at Real and that the club tried to blame him for deciding to leave.
"There are many things that I value and a lot of them have nothing to do with my salary."
However, Di Maria's father later claimed that Real failed to show his son enough respect when negotiating a new contract, suggesting that salary demands were at the heart of the problem.
"The first problems that arose were the result of financial reasons," Miguel Di Maria said. "He joined Madrid for a certain salary and they left it at that.
"Madrid never offered him €6m (£4.8m) [in a new deal]. Their ultimate offer was €5m (£4m), which represented a €1.5m (£1.2m) pay rise.
"Angel was never really appreciated at Madrid. It was always as if they didn't want him at the club. They never showed him any affection.
"He is happy at Manchester United now and they treat him well. Their financial offer was also higher than what Madrid had offered."
Di Maria, who is paid a reported £200,000 a week for United, has scored three goals and recorded three assists in his last four appearances for Louis van Gaal's side.
He scored 36 goals in 191 games during his four seasons with Real, winning the man-of-the-match award in May's Champions League final win over Atletico Madrid.
His final appearance came in August as a substitute in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup against Atletico.
