England U21 boss Southgate says the teenage left-back can only benefit from facing the Colombian and Reds' other brilliant forwards in training
Luke Shaw has discovered what it takes to be an “elite” player because he is training against Radamel Falcao.
The £27 million left-back will quickly be brought up to world class level because of his team-mates at Manchester United, according to England U21 boss Gareth Southgate.
Pupil and teacher: Luke Shaw and Radamel Falcao in training for Manchester United
Southgate is convinced the summer move from Southampton to the Old Trafford giants will lift Shaw's game.
He said: “I think what he now has is a recognition of what “world class” looks like.
“He might have had an idea of what he thought it was before, bBut training at Manchester United with the likes of Radamel Falcao and Angel Di Maria has given him a full understanding of the concept now.
“He would have known there was a level, but now he knows there is a level above that.
“He was able to share those stories among our lads in the U21s because all players at times in their careers think they are nearly there - and then you discover you still have a bit of a way to go.
“You continually have to strive to be better than you are and Luke realises that now.”
Should Luke Shaw be playing with the senior England team?
